Privacy Policy

Last updated: 1 June 2026 · Version 2.0

This Privacy Policy explains what personal data FuelUp ("FuelUp", "we", "us" or "our") collects, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the rights you have over it. It applies to the FuelUp mobile app and to this website at getfuelup.co.uk.

FuelUp is an independent business based in the United Kingdom. We are the "data controller" for the personal data described here, which means we are responsible for deciding how and why it is processed. We handle personal data in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

The short version. FuelUp helps you find cheap fuel. We collect the minimum we need to do that: your location (only with your permission), a few preferences, and — if you create an account — your name and email. We never sell your data, we never share it for advertising, and you can delete your account and data at any time from inside the app.

2. How and why we use it

Under the UK GDPR we must have a lawful basis for each use of your personal data. The table below sets out what we do and the basis we rely on.

What we doLawful basis
Show nearby stations and live fuel prices using your location Consent (you grant location access; you can withdraw it any time)
Create and secure your account; provide Premium features you pay for Performance of our contract with you
Send price-drop and nearby-cheap-fuel alerts Consent (you opt in to notifications)
Save your favourites and fuel-type preferences Performance of our contract / legitimate interests in a useful app
Keep the service stable, secure and free of abuse; fix bugs Legitimate interests in running a reliable, secure service
Respond to your support requests Legitimate interests in helping our users
Meet legal, tax and regulatory obligations Compliance with a legal obligation

Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have considered whether those interests are overridden by your rights, and we use only the data we need. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time without affecting anything we did before you withdrew it.

3. Location data

Location is at the heart of what FuelUp does, so we want to be clear about it. When you allow it, your device shares your location with the app so we can rank stations by how close they are and show local prices. You are always in control:

4. Push notifications

If you opt in to alerts, we store a push notification token (via our notifications provider, OneSignal) so we can tell you when a favourite station's price drops or when cheap fuel appears nearby. Notifications are optional. You can turn them off inside the app or in your device settings, and your token will no longer be used to message you.

5. Subscriptions & payments

FuelUp Premium is an optional subscription billed through Google Play. Payment is processed by Google under its own terms and privacy policy — we never see or store your card number or bank details. We receive only your subscription status (active, expired, cancelled) so we can unlock or lock Premium features. You manage, renew or cancel the subscription in your Google Play account.

6. Sharing & service providers

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers. We share data only with the trusted providers ("processors") that help us run the service, and only as far as needed for the purpose shown:

ProviderPurposeData involved
Amazon Web Services (AWS) Hosting our backend and this website (primary region: London, UK) Account data, preferences, technical data
Google Sign-In Optional account authentication Name, email
Google Play App distribution and subscription billing Subscription status
OneSignal Delivering push notifications Push token, device type

Our providers act on our instructions under contracts that require them to protect your data. We may also disclose data if required by law, to protect our rights or users' safety, or in connection with a business transfer (in which case this policy will continue to apply to your data).

7. International transfers

We aim to keep your data in the UK and host our core systems in the AWS London region. Some providers (such as Google and OneSignal) may process data outside the UK. Where that happens, we rely on safeguards recognised under UK data protection law — such as a UK "adequacy" decision for the destination country, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses — so your data keeps an equivalent level of protection.

8. Cookies & website data

This website is a simple static information site. It does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. We use only what is essential to serve the pages, and the app may use on-device storage to remember your preferences. If we ever add analytics, we will update this policy and ask for your consent first where the law requires it.

9. How long we keep data

We keep personal data only as long as we have a reason to:

10. How we protect data

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to keep your data safe, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), encryption of stored data, private storage that is not publicly accessible, and access controls that limit who can reach personal data. No system can be guaranteed perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and to respond promptly if anything goes wrong, including notifying you and the regulator where the law requires.

11. Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

The quickest way to delete your account and personal data is directly in the app. You can also exercise any of these rights by emailing us at hello@getfuelup.co.uk. We will respond within one month, as required by the UK GDPR. Exercising your rights is free, and we will not treat you differently for doing so. If you need a postal address for a formal request, email us and we will provide one.

12. Children

FuelUp is intended for drivers and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

13. Automated decisions

We do not make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you using solely automated processing, and we do not profile you for advertising. Ranking stations by price and distance is a simple sorting feature that you control through your fuel-type choice and location.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time — for example if we add a feature or change a provider. We will revise the "last updated" date above, and for material changes we will give a more prominent notice in the app or on this site. Please check back occasionally.

15. Contact & complaints

Questions about this policy, or about your data? Email us at hello@getfuelup.co.uk and we will be glad to help.

You also have the right to complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), though we hope you will contact us first so we can put things right:
